Codex Quest is a solo dungeon-crawler card game where you descend through three treacherous levels — the Catacombs, the Deep Keep, and the Depths of HFIL — to capture the legendary Codex. Each run challenges you to master a tight, three-phase turn structure: a Magic phase to accrue Magic Points, a Main phase to cast Creatures and Spells from your hand, and a Battle phase where your creatures strike the Dungeon Door for Victory Points.
Victory Points unlock the boss lurking behind each door, from the burrowing Killer Worm to the dreaded Demon Wizard. To defeat a boss you compare your creatures' total Power to the boss's MP, optionally discarding cards from your hand to close the gap. Enchantments such as the All-Seeing Eye let you peek behind doors, while reaction spells like Flaming Skulls and Turn into Ice punish bosses the moment they appear.
Codex Quest is built for fans of strategic single-player card games, roguelike dungeon crawls, and tight resource management. Four difficulty tiers — Easy, Medium, Hard, and Unreal — scale boss thresholds, counterattack damage, and starting hand size, so newcomers can learn the ropes while veterans chase the fewest-turns record on the Hall of Conquerors leaderboard.
The game is crafted by Matthew Coombs, owner of Git Gud Games LLC — also the creator of the Escape Land CCG — with pixel-art arcade styling, a CRT scanline overlay, and creature artwork from OpenGameArt.org contributors. Whether you have five minutes or an hour, Codex Quest delivers a complete, replayable dungeon run right in your browser — no install required.
